14/3/20 ***There's a sucker born every day

You may think that people learn their lessons.  It's quite difficult to say so.  New situation, new experience.

So with this posting I attempt to uncover the psychology of buying things more or more expensive.

We actually don't buy things.  We buy the feelings the things suppose to give us.  So buying is not logical.  We may think it is logical.  In reality a buying experience is an emotional experience.

Furthermore when we buy, we don't actually buy the thing but actually what we perceive the thing can do to us.

So we buy things to makes us feel happy.  It is further complicated because we don't buy value but the perception of the value we are getting.

If I am a seller, all I need to do is sell things that makes people happy by giving value for money things that people perceive as quality and willing to pay for that perceived value.

Nobody really think of their buying experience.  Normally in people's mind when they buy, they will think, do I like it and can I afford it?

Compared to the clothes that I own and those clothes that Ameezan gave to me, I say I buy quality while Ameezan buy the brand.  Bottom line we both spend money.

It will be nice to no longer spend money and be happy about it.

In my case for a long time I was addicted to the rush of buying.  Not really about utilizing the things I bought.  It's the process of buying that got me hooked.

So I need to short circuit the process.  I need to minimize my spending but at the same time still maximize the pleasure of buying.

Here are the things I discover:

  • Whenever there is an urge to buy, I should look back at the things I bought.  I should be grateful for owning so many things.
  • Do not look for things to buy.  There is always something to buy if we look for it
  • Do not compare yourself with others
  • Go for the YouTube experience
  • Less frequent purchase but buy quality
  • Utilize what you buy
  • Find joy in saving
  • Buy small ticket items with high degree of pleasure like expensive ice cream
  • Drink Nescafe C Kosong Ice
  • Drink Black Coffee
  • Watch a good movie
  • Appreciate Crew 36 and Sailbad the Sinner
  • Appreciate Nautica X collection
  • Get thin
  • Go for voluntary simplicity
