The way things are looking now, we’ll need something to stop the virus to truly end the threat. That’s either a vaccine (there are some now entering clinical trials but it could be a year before they are approved) or herd immunity. This is when enough people have contracted the virus, and have become immune to it, to slow its spread.
The past few days I had been rambling to myself on the impact of Covid 19 to my life. As a whole I think I am not considered myself to be in the high risk group. In another word, if I am to contact the disease, then very likely that the general population are pretty exposed to it.
The virus is not any worse than any flu virus other than it is highly infectious. It is the impact on economy that people need to worry. So although the Movement Control Order is necessary, the reaction of the masses are really borders around absurdity.
Number one being the panic buying. This is totally unnecessary. The food supply chain is not affected. There is no shortage of food supply. It is when people started to hoard and the next person also start doing the same that things will get ugly. I went to buy grocery the day before the MCO and already eggs, instant noodles and flour were out of supply. People are stocking up thinking they will run out of food the next 2 weeks. This is even after the PM gave the assurity that there are enough food for everybody.
The second issue we are facing is that people still ignore the warning on social distancing. People still travel from one state to another, hanging around at eateries and attending weddings etc. These "idiots" don't understand the issue at hand. They need to isolate themselves even after the MCO period is over. Wearing face masks alone won't solve the problem. They need to be at home minimizing contact. This is the best measure to slow down the virus from spreading.
Finally is the support of the healthcare. This is the last defense mechanism. By the time we get to this point, we are already contacting the virus. So it is up to our immune system and the medical support to keep the illness from escalating.
In the end as predicted by one doctor, the virus can affect 2/3 of the world's population. Which means at worst fatality is 7% of the world population. This is based on 1 person will affect 2 to 2.5 people. Studies from China suggested that people with A blood type are most likely to suffer complications. At best 1/3 will be affected.
Our hope is back to our own immune system. If we are strong, our body will build resistance against the disease. Nothing matters as much as allowing the body to be well rested including having a good night sleep. Personal hygiene is important too considering that the virus is spreading through person to person contact.
The best bet is to contact the virus and have a strong immune system. That way our body will build the antibody to keep the virus at bay. It all depends on the rate that the virus mutate. That is why vaccination is not a guarantee. In the end what counts is how our body cope with stress. The stress could be in this case a pathogenic stress to the body.
Personally I think this is how nature strikes a balance. I consider this as a population culling. The strong will survive while the weak will wither.
