6/2/20 ^^^The issue of being God

You know what is the real issue of being God?  That means you got to uphold to a higher standard.  As God you are striving to be the best that you can be.  In Buddhism, we are talking about being a Bodhisattva if not the awakening of the Buddha within us ourselves.

Here again definition of God matters.  I am not talking about the Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient being.  I don't know such a being is possible while still remain hidden.  What I'm talking about is the God that acts as the Super Ego to the Self.  In this case each of us can strive to be his own God in his own universe.

This is really not something hard to imagine.  Instead of thinking like a subservient, think like a co-creator.  Instead of a thinking like a beneficiary, think like a benefactor.  Within the realm of our thoughts we are creating and eliminating all the time.  Hence we create and destroy through the power of our thoughts.  When we think constructively we become a co-creator.  This is the very basis of being God to our own universe.

We don't need organized religions to do good and do no harm.  If we practice the Golden Rule, we are already on the way to become a Civil Society.  The flip side to it, if we are selfish and conceited, we are by default doing injustice to the society.  The caveat is if we decided to purge ourselves from being a member of the society.  Even that, we are still governed by the Law of Cause and Effect.

This thought is not new.  In the past the pharaohs, the kings of the Aztecs and the great emperors of China had this belief that they were decedents of God.  Jesus too believed he was the son of God.  However the notion that we are gods is not exclusive to a selected few.  If we give ourselves the permission to think about our higher selves, that manifestation leads to us being gods.

This is so true in the context that we the humans are really the creators of things being created around us.  No other species has the ability to create other than humans.  To say that there is a Supreme Being that creates all that is natural is really undermining the natural process of creation that undergo the progression created by chemistry, biology and physics.  All these can happen without the intervention of a supernatural power.

On the contrary all inventions require human interventions.  Without human ingenuity, even a fully automated factory cannot function on its own.  There must be a cause-set-in-motion for things to happen.

What I am proposing is not an idea where we all become gods for others to worship or revere.  My idea is about embracing our higher self.  By thinking that we are gods therefore compel us to be the best of our potential.  Suzuki Roshi made a distinction by separating between the I and the Big I.  Already we are separating between the conscious mind and the unconscious mind.  What is the [] (unconscious) mind really?  It is none other the mind that is beyond the limit of our consciousness.  This mind governs our character and eventually our destiny.

So if we are to believe in the Supreme Being, then we must acknowledge that the knowledge of that Being is within us.  It is embedded in the unconscious mind.  Very much like the instinct to survive is embedded in every living being.  Hence believing we are gods then is merely acknowledging that within each of us there is God.
