From the perspective of a Hedonist Hermit, I am self-contained. All I need is here. While I am minimizing my financial expenditure, I should maximise my life experience through the use of things I already acquired.
Of the things I make use the most, I have to say that my most useful tool is the PC. That is maximum utilization.
Next to it are the watches.
What if I spend my money on other pleasurable items. What are they?
- Food
- Clothes
- Perfumes
- Shoes
- Books
- Going to the movies
- Gadgets
- Vacations
None gives me the same pleasure as the PC and the watches. Therefore with the exception of food, I don't need the rest.
In the past, in order to increase my pleasure, I spend on the 3 Cs. With that out of the way, I had done myself a big favor.
What I'm saying is, I should not spend unnecessarily. Still, spending money is a compulsion. Therefore if I stop being compulsive about spending money, I should be able to minimize my need for money.
---------------------
If I reduce my dependency for money, I am already free from the burden of materialism for at least the next 5 years.
That should be my aim. To reduce expenditure to the very minimum for the next 5 years so that I am financially free.
In this case, financial freedom is not about buying whatever I like but rather to reduce my dependency on money and still have a meaningful life.
The way to do it is to spend only when is necessary. It also means that I reduce social interaction. I cannot think of anything I want to indulge in other than watches. Even that I had completed my collection.
I might indulge in food. But then, food is pretty much a contingency rather than a necessity. What nourishes me destroys me. Most of the indulgences are the lust for unhealthy stuff.
Therefore other than watches, there is nothing more for me to indulge in.
What is necessary then for the next 5 years?
- Dental work
- Replacement for PC
- Replacement for phone
Other than that, I am all set. I certainly don't need to spend on the biggest expenditure of all: Vacations.
